Oak Tree Class
The children have enjoyed playing in the cinema this week.  They have bought tickets and popcorn and added these prices together to find the total.  They also decided they would like to sell sweets at the cinema so they made some white and green peppermint creams to sell and also some flapjacks.

The children have continued their work on blends this week in their literacy lessons and have been answering the register using a form of greeting from yet another culture – ‘Namaste’ which is Hindi for ‘The spirit in me greets the spirit in you’.

Maple Class
Maple class have been learning about how to use non-fiction books and found out about owls.  In science they have investigated which materials are attracted to a magnet.  They have studied their reflections in a mirror and drawn self-portraits which will be used in a composite picture of the queen to commemorate her diamond jubilee.

Hawthorn Class
Hawthorn class have been writing stories with a familiar setting this week.  The children have thought about the story mountain and tried to include adjectives and adverbs in their writing – testing them out on Mrs Hagen.

The children have made starch resist frost patterns in art and used their temperature recordings to data handle maths.  They have also been predicting whether the person with the widest hand span also has the longest arms or the largest feet.  Then they set about trying to find out!

Upper Nursery
This week the children have chosen to do some activities around the story of ‘Peter and the Wolf!  They looked at some of the instruments featured in the story – one of our parents brought in her violin to show us and Mrs Bamford brought in her flute.  The children made puppets to tell the story as well as wolf masks to wear.

Lower Nursery
This week the children have been enjoying crafts based around the film “Cars”.  Many of them have brought in their own vehicles and have played together in small groups.  This week’s activities have been a roaring success with all the children!

Children have also been looking at construction sites to tie in with homes they learnt about last week.  They have been making lots of lovely cement mixers, dumper trucks, ladders, shovels and 3D houses with balsa wood.

Toddlers
This week in the Elmer room the toddlers have enjoyed a music week.  Throughout the week the children have listened to a variety of music and have learnt the actions to the “Superman” song.  They have also made musical instruments using paper plates and rice, which were then used to accompany their singing of a ‘shake and stop’ song.

In the Winnie the Pooh room the children have been getting to know their colours. They used different sized boxes to explore colour matching. They enjoyed building large towers and houses in different colours and of course had even more fun knocking them down!

Babies
The babies in the Peter Rabbit room enjoyed sensory play and visual stimulation.  They had fun playing with kaleidoscope blocks, looking through them, noticing and exploring different patterns and colours and they were mesmerised looking through mirrors.
