On Wednesday the pupils from Silver Birch class went to Blunsdon House and enjoyed learning about Mayan food with Mrs Clifford. The children tasted different types of chocolate to learn about the percentages of cocoa in each. Then they made Rainforest cookies, which included chocolate chips, coconut, cashew nuts, and banana. They also made "Jicama salad" from onions, cabbage, apple (in place of the jicama which cannot be exported from South America) peppers and cucumber all mixed together with a homemade dressing of rice vinegar, sugar, olive oil and mint. Finally the children made rainforest fruit kebabs. They learnt a lot - what a great morning!
