A message from Mrs Kular 22/05/2020

Dear Parents

I hope you are keeping well and safe with your family. I would like to update you on Meadowpark’s approach to Coronavirus.

As you will know the government recently made an announcement  permitting the widespread opening of nurseries and certain year groups in schools from 1st June. I have already written to parents whose children this may have affected. Meadowpark has decided not to reopen the Nursery and the School for Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 on 1st June.

NURSERY SCHOOL

We are making preparations towards re-opening Meadowpark Nursery, hopefully on 1st July. We are reading government guidelines as well as taking advice from leading childcare practitioners and attending virtual seminars from independent educational bodies to ensure the safety of all staff and children.

We would like to thank staff who have volunteered to read stories online which can be accessed through our Facebook Page. There are also links to activities in the Parents’ Area of our website. You will need to register to access this section.

SCHOOL

Following the government’s announcement we surveyed the parents of Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 and I can share with you that only 20% of parents said they would send their children back to school on the 1st June were we to re-open.

While we believe that the best place to educate children is in the classroom with their friends, we would also like to be certain of the integrity of the advice we will follow in putting in protective measures for a safe return. Over the past week the Department for Education alone has offered 41 sets of guidance, not including updates, which have occasionally been confusing and conflicting. So online learning will continue for all pupils probably until 1st July.

Once we have received clarity on how to implement the government guidelines, we shall put together a programme for a phased return following a risk assessment, which will be shared with the Meadowpark School community.

Half term is from Monday 25th May to Friday 29th May so there will be no online learning for pupils at school. Sadly there is no holiday activity school. Should you require some ideas on how to keep your child entertained, we have a special list of links in the Parents’ Area of our website, for which you will need to register to gain access.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please email me as the office is currently closed. Wishing you a safe and enjoyable Bank Holiday.
